Akshobya Kadampa Buddhist Centre and the Calgary Public Library co-hosted an evening of Modern Buddhism at the John Dutton Theatre on the second floor of the main library. This practical approach to the authentic Mahayana Buddhist path, developed by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, founder of the New KadampaTradition (NKT), is one of the most influential presentations of Buddhism in the modern world. Kadam Dharma presents the complete Buddhist path of Sutra and Tantra in a way that is easy for modern people to understand and integrate into their daily lives. Throughout the world, including Africa and Asia, people are finding that the clear methods for developing peaceful, clear minds are solving their daily problems, whether or not they are “Buddhist.”
For the first time ever, the General Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition, Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong visited Calgary. Special guest speaker Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong has been a disciple of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso for 30 years and has taught Dharma in many different countries. In 2010 she became the General Spiritual Director of the tradition and continues to work closely with the founder, who retired in 2009. She is a living example of loving kindness and wisdom, faith and patience. Always a favorite teacher, she delights listeners with her perfectly clear transmission of Buddha’s teachings, touching their hearts with candid and practical examples and limitless humour. Thanks to all who attended!
